Aroma and fragrance are the symbols of purity and calmness. A scintillating fragrance induces romanticism in the atmosphere. Opening up a new world to aroma and essence, the oil fragrance lamps have become an integral part of interior designing of homes. An oil fragrance lamp exudes coziness and emits a sense of spirituality when placed in a room.

Oil fragrance lamps are considered a better option than candles and incenses for the sole reason that these lamps do not exude smoke but work on the catalytic burner technology. The catalytic burner technique owes its origin in the 1800s when the technique was developed for hospitals and mortuaries. Traveling from that age, the oil fragrance lamps have now been shunned for their medical use but are more commonly being used in homes and offices as pieces of fragrance emitting devices. Along with this they also purify the air by decomposing the odor molecules into harmless substances like carbon dioxide and water.

Working of the lamps:

As mentioned the oil fragrance lamps works on catalytic burner technology. The fragrance lamp contains a stone made catalytic burner that is heated by flame to reach a particular level of temperature. On being lit, the flame is extinguished and the burner continues with heat regeneration. The lamp has a vessel containing fragrant oil. This vessel is placed on the catalytic burner. On being heated the burner heats the oil and continuous fragrance flows through out the room.

The catalytic burner technology is considered better for the introduction of fragrance in the air, when compared with incense sticks or scented candles for a few reasons. The first of these is the absence of the smoke generated by the burning of incenses and candles. Also the heating element is better than continuous burning ember or an open flame. Also with a suitable sized fragrance lamp there is no need to keep replacing it as with candles and incense sticks. The only requirement is a refill of the oil. Read the rest of this entry »

Man has always loved fragrances and ranging from flowers and perfumes, scented candles and incense sticks, he has sought ways to put in fragrance in his home and his surroundings. A fragrant room exudes calmness and purity relieving one of the stresses that he might have gone through the day. With the introduction of fragrance lamps this quest has been fulfilled. Fragrance lamps are becoming an essential part of the interior designing of homes simply for the reason that they provided an aesthetic and purified appeal to the home and they score better when compared to other methods of fragrance generation.

Fragrance lamps are also known by the name of catalytic lamps mainly because this is the technique used in the working of the fragrance lamps. These catalytic lamps not just eliminate all sorts of household odors but also impart fragrance while purifying the air. Another increasingly appealing use of these fragrance or catalytic lamps is the use in aromatherapy.

Fragrance lamps are also known by the name of perfume lamps or aroma lamps depending mainly on the purpose for which they are being used. Whatever the name, the technique used in all these lamps is the name and hence they work in a similar fashion.

Working of the perfume/aroma/fragrance lamps:

Working on the catalytic burner technique the fragrance lamps destroy certain bacteria and odors from the air. At the same time they increase the oxygen levels and impart a fragrance to the air. The burner is heated to reach a temperature of nearly 140 degrees Fahrenheit which in turn heats the liquid fuel which is generally alcohol based. This burning fuel destroys odor and disperses fragrance.

Benefits of the perfume/aroma/fragrance lamps:

Air borne bacteria and odors floating in the air are destroyed by the fragrance lamps. This is the major benefit that one gets from the fragrance lamps. Besides this a host of other benefits like increasing oxygen levels, dispersing perfume or fragrance in the air, providing aromatherapy benefits and acting as insect repellents can be gained. The aroma lamps score over candles and incense sticks because of their efficiency and safety features. Read the rest of this entry »
